What is a "Prescribing Pharmacist?

In Alberta, a prescribing pharmacist is a pharmacist who has been granted Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) by the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP). This means they can go beyond traditional dispensing roles and independently prescribe certain medications under defined circumstances.

Can a prescribing pharmacist prescribe anything?

While prescribing pharmacists can prescribe a lot of medications, certain medications such as narcotics require a visit to the doctor.
